This is an extremely simple demo. It is not intended to demonstrate how to write a great Macintosh program. Rather it is designed to show how you can integrate SpellWright into your applications rather painlessly. It also doesn't utilize several of SpellWright's more powerful features such as regular expression searching. It also doesn't use the integrated interface library that we will ship with SpellWright. Instead it demonstrates how easy it is to write your own custom interface to SpellWright.
The program is based on Apple's TE editor and thus falls prey to many of the weaknesses of the TE libraries. Before you start spell checking, first select Dictionary Options from the Utilities menu. There you can open one dictionary of each type. With SpellWright you can have up to 32 dictionaries of any type open, but this demo is more limited as it is designed only to show of the basic features and speed of SpellWright. After opening some dictionaries select Spell Check from the Utilities menu. This brings up a modal dialog box that presents a list of suggestions for any misspelled words.
Further demonstrations are available from LexTek International. Some of these will be shareware programs that are full applications in their own right. One demo coming out in a few weeks is an interactive spell checker. It will run in the background, monitoring your keystrokes, beeping when you type an error. This will effectively give you full spell checking capabilities to all your applications. When you find an error you can press a command key sequence to bring up the application that will offer a suggestion to your error and then replace your misspelled word with the correction. We will also be adding Word Services Suite Apple Events to this application so that you can use Apple Events to control spell checking. As this is a commercial application the version we will ship as a demo will be slightly crippled.
We also plan on distributing an extension to BBEdit that will allow you to spell check documents from within BBEdit.
